Registration of dogs (when you have started keeping a dog)

Dog owners are required to register their dogs.
Please register your dog at the Health Sanitation Division of your nearest ward office. Registration costs 3,000 yen.
You will receive a metal plate as a certificate of registration.
Please make sure to attach this plate to your dog's collar.
(Note: In some cases, you may be able to complete these procedures at the veterinary clinic.)
Also, if you give your dog to someone else or if your dog dies, please inform the Health Sanitation Division of your nearest ward office.

Administration of rabies vaccinations and registration (annual)

Dog owners are requested to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies once a year. Please visit a veterinary clinic to have your dog vaccinated against rabies and receive a rabies vaccination certificate.
Then, please take this certificate to the Health Sanitation Division of your nearest ward office and pay the 550 yen processing fee.
You will receive a metal plate as a certificate showing that your dog has been vaccinated.
Please make sure to attach this plate to your dog's collar.
